tonight we swell
like bark on tree boles:
summer dark curls around
street signs, the foolish
picket fence with one rail missing, the man
standing as if strapped
to it all. a small wind
frumps & fusses
like a meddlesome aunt. sap
blows through the roots to the stems;
you fill me
the way a door
fills its frame
