Life as a teacher is safe and secure, just the way Claire likes it, so when she arrives at The Feathers Hotel for a working holiday she is shocked to find herself spellbound by a charming, yet outspoken hotel guest. Jim is a man who knows what he wants and is not afraid to demand it, especially when what he desires is her.
Although, at first, they barely know each other, Claire is surprised at how turned on by his directness she is. Before long she hands over all control to him, and discovers the illicit pleasures of submitting to a dominant male. With just a look, a touch, or a few simple words she is powerless to do anything but what he demands.
Just as it all seems to be going well, life gets messy as it becomes apparent that the mysterious Jim is keeping secrets from her. As they grow closer to each other, Claire cannot totally settle until she finds out what shady business he is hiding. Who are the odd phone calls from, which dampen his mood? Where does his endless supply of cash come from? Eager to put an end to her worries, Claire enlists a friend to help her seek out the truth. But what will happen if he turns out to be someone other than the man he says he is? Although she loves him and is living out her wildest fantasies, in reality, Claire might as well be submitting to a stranger.
Because Wings of Madness is written in the first person point of view, this reviewer felt a profound connection to these characters. The sense of belonging Claire experiences is extremely erotic in itself, but the danger her Dom stirs within her, along with the deep uneasiness she feels when she discovers he is not being completely honest about who he really is, makes an exciting, sensual read. Mae Nixon has crafted an intriguing plot, with a wonderful Dom and sub dialogue. The way Jim plainly refuses to divulge certain aspects of his life, heightens the tension, and adds to Claire’s worries, making their relationship as exciting as the ending.
