Over 100 years Auria graduated high school then earned her nursing diploma. While attending a lecture given by Thomas Horace Welcher she was smitten. Six months later they were married and on a fabulous honeymoon cruise to Rio de Janiero. Their ensuing expedition into the vast untamed Amazon Basin searching for medicines and contraceptives used by native tribes changed their lives.
