Partners in Passion: A Guide to Great Sex, Emotional Intimacy and Long-term Love by Mark A. Michaels & Patricia Johnson
Cleis Press, March 2014; ISBN-10: 1627780289
Most of us long for intimate relationships, and though texting and emailing may keep us superficially connected, it ultimately cannot create the kind of intimacy necessary to sustain a deep, fulfilling, and lasting partnership. With the divorce rate reaching a staggering 50 percent in 2013 and the breakup rate among unmarried long-term couples even higher, it appears that the more we tweet, the more disconnected we become. So many of us believe that new is better, hotter, and more intense, but love at first sight isn’t really love, it’s chemistry. Developing the connections and intimacy that everyone craves takes time and skill. In Partners in Passion, Michaels and Johnson provide readers with a fun, step-by-step guide to discovering true, loving, and romantically sexual relationships that will last for decades.
Comprehensive and inclusive, Partners in Passion is original and provocative, drawing on a variety of sources: cutting-edge science, psychology, the authors’ background in tantra, and personal experiences as teachers and as a couple. Partners in Passion invites couples to design their relationships and to choose consciously, and is replete with how-to suggestions and exercises, including interviews with couples from diverse backgrounds, relationship styles, and orientations who are enjoying erotically vibrant partnerships.

Big Big Love, Revised: A Sex and Relationships Guide for People of Size (and Those Who Love Them) by Hanne Blank
Celestial Arts; Revised edition, september 2011; ISBN-10: 158761085X
Review by Kitty Stryker: Many sex guides expect the reader and their lover/s to have a slender, athletic body, and their tips are offered accordingly. But what if you have a soft belly, rounded thighs or a plump behind? These guides can often offer frustration in place of titilation if you’re built for comfort. Thankfully, there is a new, revised edition of Hanne Blank’s book “Big Big Love: A Sex and Relationships Guide for People of Size (and Those Who Love Them)” to give everyone else sex advice they can really use.
On top of the excellent advice and information ranging from health to navigating the dating world, this edition has a bunch of fresh new interviews from body-acceptance activists to fatshionistas, along with some brilliant new illustrations and hundreds of new quotes from fat folks and those who care about them. Ranging from practical advice (sex positions and toy usage) to emotional support (building confidence and myth-busting), it’s a full-figured resource. This is not just a book for plus-sized people, however, and there’s a great, thoughtful section just for fat admirers on how to be a supportive lover and ally. The revised “Big Big Love” proves itself to be just as indispensable as it was when it first came out.

Owning our desires should be neither embarrassing nor uncomfortable. Nor should they be subject to anyone else’s moral judgment of what is right or wrong, good or bad, normal or abnormal. Combining communication and information is the key. By shrugging off the taboos against talking about our preferences and experiences when we’re being sexual, we will take the first and most important steps toward ensuring our own fulfillment.
The Ultimate Guide to Orgasm for Women is an unflinchingly honest, responsible, and thoroughly comprehensive exploration of female sexuality. Topics include: The physical types of orgasm, such as electrical, flying, pounding, deep, waves, and blips; orgasm as an emotional release; the “elusive orgasm” and why some women have difficulty having one; how often we fake them and why; masturbation; multiple orgasms; the male-female dichotomy; penetration and the G-spot; defining the erotic; and the joy of sex toys.
