Uma Waterproof Rechargeable Vibrator

The lovely folks at Good Vibrations offered me the chance to review the Uma Waterproof Rechargeable Vibrator from Je Joue. I decided it was rather…conspicuous… to take it on my family cruise vacation so I had to wait until I got home to review it for you. Though I do wonder what the ever-efficient cabin stewards would have thought or if they would have used it as a part of some towel animal. The mind boggles at what they could do with a couple of towel and a bright fuschia vibrator.

Umm – nevermind.

The Uma came packaged in a black box with just the manufacturer name and logo on it that was then put in a colorful sleeve, thus providing a reasonably discrete storage box that also serves to keep this silicone toy from collecting to much dust and lint.

When unpacked, I discovered that the Uma is completely smooth. Not only are there no embossed patterns but also no mold marks. I couldn’t detect any scent or substance on the surface, but a new toy always gets a bath. I was amused to find that the Uma floated in the sink-it might be a nice feature if you like to play in bodies of water like bathtubs or hot tubs. Just don’t queue the Jaws theme song…

The Uma came with a charger which attaches to the base of the vibrator with magnets. The magnets are polarized so that the charger cannot be attached backwards, a touch I appreciated. It took about 90 minutes to charge the Uma the first time and the little heart-shaped blinking light on the charger plug went to a solid heart when it was done.

The Uma is really a lovely shape with a smooth curve along the body, an indented waist and a base that is about an inch bigger around than the top. That indented waist and bigger base means this is a toy that could be used for anal play but I’d still recommend clothing Uma with a condom to do so. The Uma isn’t a huge toy at 7 inches long with a top that measured in at 4.5 inches around and a base that was 5.25 inches around. The waist in the middle was 3 inches. The curve of the Uma also makes it good for G-Spot stimulation.

The finish of the silicone surface is a nice almost-smooth finish which I liked quite a bit. I know that the velvet finish is all the rage and it can be nice but sometimes it just creates too much drag and makes me consider investing in the gallon-size porn-studio intended lube jugs. The finish of the Uma was quite nice with just what I’d consider a normal amount of lube.

It took me a moment to figure out how to turn on the Uma (remember that I’m not much on reading directions) but it turns out that the Uma is a bit unusual in that the buttons on the base that the charger attaches two are also the primary controls. The plus sign one turn the Uma on and ups the power intensity and the minus sign one turns down the intensity and, when held for two seconds, will turn it off. A bit more fumbling around revealed a more difficult to identify third button between those two that is the button to cycle through the vibration patterns.

The Uma has 5 intensity levels and 7 patterns. It’s fairly quiet, especially at the lower intensity levels, but more buzzy at the higher levels. I’d liken it to a moderately noise bullet vibrator.

When I set down to really run the Uma through her paces and my orgasms, I really enjoyed it. The higher two intensity levels were more powerful than I’d have predicted – the Uma packs a punch. The patterns were interesting but, like I do with most patterns, I enjoyed them for a while but then got tired of teasing myself with them and went back to the straight vibrations. It was a bit difficult to press the buttons and try to remember which was which while masturbating and they took some effort to press down with my long nails and with Uma being a bit… slipper… so a bit of trial and error distracted me – but not for long.

The silicone surface slid easily over my labia and my clit-hood ring, no painful hangups or friction. I liked that the curve of the Uma made it easier to insert and thrust the toy – I really didn’t want to explain the resurgence of my carpal tunnel to my doctor as “trying too hard with too straight a toy”. The Uma was also curved well to hit my G-spot.

After play, the smooth surface meant clean-up was quick and easy and I set it back to recharge.

I enjoyed the Uma quite a bit. I really liked the vibration intensity, the smooth and uncluttered toy shape and surface and the fact it’s waterproof. I did find the buttons a bit hard to use, which may be more of an issue to others who tend to change pattern or intensity more often than I do. I also like the multi-use options the Uma offers. I think this toy will be staying with me for a while.
