All beaches aren't created equal. I'll wear something with 3 or 4 inch sides and a full back at a beach or pool with an average sized group of people around. At other times with fewer people or at a beach with other bikini wearers I'll wear a string bikini with 1/2 inch sides, a narrow front and Rio back.

Thanks to Ed for his feedback. I will add that when I was single, I experienced what Ed did. I've always been interested in wearing speedos but too shy. I had some as a teenager but would not wear them in public. That was many years ago (I'm 35 now). A few years ago, I learned that a buddy of mine got some and he started wearing them to beaches and pool parties. That prompted me to finally pick up a pair. Now, I only wear speedos when getting wet. My friends are actually shocked now when I forget my speedos and have to borrow boardies. I think people are more accepting/tolerant than people assume them to be.

Now, my next challenge is to wear them to a water park. I still haven't built up the nerve to do that yet!

Couldn't agree more with Jared. [see Jared's entry below] I'm a bodybuilder too, born in South America but currently living in Australia. I also own several Andreas Cahling posing suits, and they are great for the days on the beach when it is not appropriate to wear a thong. Back in S.A., I used to wear string bikinis very similar to the Andreas Cahling ones, and most of my girlfriend just loved it. Didn't have negative reactions from the locals, but yes, as Jarred points out from his Uruguayan experience, I did stand out. 

Here in Australia nobody gives a damn for what you are wearing on the beach;  therefore I'm free to wear Dore and Muscleskins without any problems at all. I still wear my Andreas Cahling string bikinis when I go to the local swimming pools with the kids, and I'm unbelievable popular with the ladies, at least 6 of them talk to me all the time.
