I like this discussion. Many good points have been made. In college I took a journalism class that explored the depiction of women & minorities in the media. It was in this class that I learned the distinction between erotica and pornography, which has been well-described by a previous person who posted (the writer who mentioned that "porne" is "prostitute").

I agree that many things are mislabeled in both manners. Most of all, I agree that erotica involves a mutual pleasuring of those involved. Porn involves exploitation. I'll stick with erotica.

It all comes down to a matter of taste. Those who chose to call it eroticism as opposed to pornography think that doing so makes it somehow superior to just plain porn. Look at yourselves. Any given person calling a particular picture/story/film eroticism will firmly believe themselves in the right. Any given religious fanatic will firmly believe themselves right when they say that anything involving nude bodies is wholly pornography and consequently, evil.

Anyway. The purpose of any of it is for sexual pleasure. Get over yourselves. (just for the record, I like it all.) The only reason you claim a difference is that you feel that calling what you prefer eroticism makes you a little classier.

Porn makes me feel sad, lonely, hopeless...anything but horny. The actors in movies are always so awful looking. It makes me think of pathetic, greasy old salesman whacking off in a dark booth. Either that or it makes me laugh. And the literature! I especially love those "true stories"... I have a 12 inch cock and... blech.

I've always had a thing for erotica, but so many men don't get it, or they confuse it with romance. Yes, there is a romance element, but there are other aspects of erotica: a touch of mystery, a bit of suspense, a slowly building warmth, the body treated as an object to be worshipped or loved (as opposed to a hole to be stuffed), gentle nibbling of nipples that look like chocolate kisses, soft tongue caresses, labia that looks like a juicy peach, gentle exploring hands...imagery, fantasy...and or course, proper story form: introduction, rising action, climax--climax--climax....mmmm...the end. Yeah, I want the romance, the roses, the bonbons, but I want the rose buds...

Porn delivers less than promised, erotica delivers more than expected. (There's a good deal of literary porn and raunchy erotica out there.) It probably has to do with the author's intent--to get your money for as little as possible or to seduce you into coming back for more and more and more.

I don't think you over reacted at all. I'm sure every erotic writer is met with people like that at some time, I know I have. The thing is, most people have been so blinded by the taboo side of sex and their parents generation that that's all they see now.

They can't see the poetry, philosophy and depth of the stories that are really being told. There's your difference. While all porn focuses on is the act on itself, True erotica will tell you a story that will stay with you as greatly as any good novel of film. Erotica is an art.

Firstly, as I noticed in a lot of posts, Erotica is read by everyone, and the term "frigid" women just isn't cool.

Like everything, sex is a choice, porn is a choice, erotica is a choice. Erotica to me is a more fleshed out (no pun intended) account of an event, its most often romantic, as we all crave a little spice, but porn, sometimes it just works to have the whole darn lot.

Porn does go too far sometimes, - but only when someone is clearly not enjoying themselves - that's where it stops.

I just have to reply to Shadow L. Parker [see next entry]. If you think porn is "telling it like it is", & erotica is gussied up for "frigid" women... well, your understanding of holistic sexuality, & most real women, is sadly limited. You may prefer porn---- many men do, since it is aggressively marketed for male tastes.

Porn doesn't BEGIN to describe the scope & depth & potential for sex between conscious equals. As I've stated in my previous comments Porn is about getting you off fast & easily, & above all, gaining access to your wallet. Any man that kids himself otherwise is cheating himself & his partners of a fuller, richer sexual spectrum.

Use porn if you choose, but do it w/ your eyes open. And if you're encountering a lot of "frigid" females...well, I'm not surprised. Try asking what she needs, & it may go beyond simple parts manipulation...
