CircumcisionA Prickly Problem
From David From Denise From Heather I'm a registered nurse, and I've worked in labor & delivery for 7 years and in the NICU for 5 years. Circ is big in the Midwest, and our hospital circ's about 75% of the males born here. Pain relief is a joke. Docs are supposed to apply a topical anesthetic about 1 hour before the procedure, and then cover it and let it sit for that hour, but they NEVER do. They just slap it on, wait about 5 mins. max, then do the procedure. It does nothing for the pain. But then when the parents ask if the baby was given pain relief, the doc can say "yes." There is also an injection, a penile block that can be given, but the docs don't like to use it as it is not very effective, and is very painful for the baby, thereby causing additional pain. I've seen babies scream until they can't scream any more, choke and gag, vomit, stop breathing, pass out, you name it. And please don't tell me it's just from being strapped to the board, either. It's from having the most sensitive part of his body ripped, crushed, and cut. We nurses have been told that when we return the baby to the parents, that if the baby is upset, we are to tell the parents that he was upset about being away from mom (though they are rarely upset before the start of the procedure) and if he is quiet, that he 'just slept thru the whole thing.' Doctors and nurse LIE to patients, ALL THE TIME. Unless you have worked in a medical setting, you don't have any idea what really goes on. I recently changed hospitals, and found that in my new hospital, the circ room is soundproofed. Why? Because it's damn close to some of the patients' rooms. I never participate in circs -- just as there are nurses who, for ethical reasons, won't hang chemo, I don't help with circs anymore. It's a fucked up, sick, barbaric thing to do to an innocent, non-consenting baby's genitals. Circ is an especially cruel thing to do to a baby, because in a child, the foreskin is fused to the glans, like a fingernail is fused to a finger, and before the foreskin can be cut off, it first it must be forcibly separated from the glans. It doesn't become moveable and able to be retracted for many years. Circ does not act as a vaccine against HIV/ AIDS either -- the African study this idea comes from was highly flawed and concluded early, and later they stated that they had OVER-stated their initial results. Africa also has 4x higher prostitution rate. BTW, after Israel, the US has the 2nd highest rate of circ, and after Africa, the US has the 2nd highest infection rate. The vast majority of men in Europe are not subjected to circ, and Europe has very low infection rates. Education is the key, not mutilation. To balance your pro-circ links, here's a few more: I feel for the men who had this forced on them as infants. They had no say in what was done to their bodies, and I can't imagine how that must feel. But doing it to the next generation is not okay. Let the baby decide when he grows up. It's his body. The decision to circ cannot be undone, and it should be his own choice as to whether he wants his penis altered or not. From Ron Low Sex with the natural amount of slack skin is worlds better and my wife likes the change too. I get sensations I never knew were possible when the shaft skin rolls around. I've heard there are special "J-receptor" nerve endings there that only send their signals when they are bent and straightened. That would explain why it feels so good as the skin tube rolls past the corona when my wife is working my skin up and down. My skin tube, not the glans, is the best part of my penis. From Anonymous The old severe pain for infants cry is old hat since the advent of topical anesthetics and is advocated by all medical authorities that circumcision not be done without pain relief. Please keep the debate to the 21st century and not what was done 50, 100+ years ago. The phony reasons from the past keep being quoted as valid. Take a look at circlist.com or circinfo.net for current and historical information. The cost today is covered with NHS and Medicare and the modern procedure takes minutes especially with the plastibel method. In my case I think the main advantage of being circumcised is in urination - no tight/loose/long foreskin to get in the way and get wet - day in day out throughout your life. No drips on clothing to smell. Cleanliness comes next. No worries, especially in youth and the problems of the cleansing procedure. The information is rarely passed on. In my case maintenance is just a wipe in the shower as any other part of my body. In life no stickiness or discomfort. Just look around to see who are constantly tugging or re-adjusting because of irritation. Since the huge fuss against circumcision 25 years ago, modern doctors are re-assessing the effects after encountering a generation of problems and now suggest there are benefits and most carry out the simple procedure but do not advocate the return to routine neonatal circumcision. One study even shows that as a preventative, it is cost effective in the health system just like vaccination - but I'm not getting into that. From Sue Hygienically, I've never known any of my male friends, (who are occasionally distressingly open with me) or my lovers to have problems with being uncut. I've known one or two people who've had to be cut for medical reasons, and non of these were related to hygiene. I think that you should leave it as nature intended. I simply can't understand the US mania with circumcising babies. People who say "they can't feel it" are wrong, as it has been stated, they just won't remember it. I think as with all medical procedures, it should only be performed when needed. They mutilate female babies in some countries, so they can't experience orgasm properly, and I think it amounts to the same thing with male circumcision. For those of you who are cut, You're missing out. There's nothing quite like watching a man thrashing about in pleasure because you're moving his foreskin very very slowly up and down. The Glands are more sensitive when the penis is uncut, so it calls for a different form of BJ. I has boyfriend who I could transfix for hours by running my fingers over the exposed glands, and he had to tell me to stop sometimes because it was too intense. (And I've never experienced this "smell" you speak of. Perhaps you should make men wash more?) Comparing this to the amount of time, and arm strain caused with cut men, just to sustain an acceptable erection, and comparatively how little you can actually do with a cut penis. I prefer mine "gift wrapped," thank you. From Catherine From Instant Cut ones make men look comical, a bit like he has a live lizard stuck to him. Pleasure wise, uncut is way ahead. No comparison. I have had many a man in my line of work and I can speak from experience.
