So I was taking a shower earlier and as I was powderin' up with a pretty good smellin' fragrance, I started thinking about all the stuff we use to keep those bad smells away. I got to thinkin'...

We spray perfume or men's cologne all over us to make sure we smell good for our partner and sometimes just for ourselves. I love Red Door and Paloma Picasso.

But the vagina and penis are supposed to smell natural, aren't they? Or do you spray yourselves there too? If so, what do you use?

Does anyone ever get embarrassed at the thought of oral sex if you haven't taken a shower first? Or, if not, how did you overcome it? —Megan

I am pretty well convinced that body odors are there, in part, to stimulate sexual activity. I distinctly remember the first time I smelled my own underarm B.O. I was in fourth grade, we had just come in from recess on a warm day, and as I was standing in line I noticed this odd odor which seemed to be coming from my armpits. I stuck a finger in and brought it to my nose and... I got an erection. This was well before I entered puberty -- in other words, well before the days of spontaneous (and near-constant) erections -- and well before erections were accompanied by sexual thoughts.

So I think something primitive and complex happened that day. As an adult, I continue to find that my body odors, whether they be from my feet, my foreskin, my armpits or even my anus, stimulate thoughts of sex. Yet I have zero desire to have sex with an odorous woman and I would not want a woman smelling the worst of me!

First I want to say that living nude most of the time, as at a nudist club, changes body odors.  Clothing traps, intensifies and changes odors.  Different bacteria grow. With that said, I like clean all the way around.  Starting about 7th grade I discovered I could smell certain odors quite distinctly if one or more of the girls in the class was "wet", anywhere in the room.  It wasn't directional. I finally learned that if certain girls were in the class it was going to smell in a specific distinctive way.

My wife used to say that I could always make a living as a bloodhound if I were unemployed. Later, through trial and error, I discovered that in most ladies, it is the pubic hair itself that traps most of the odors.  A simple dampening of the hair with plain water causes a large increase in aroma.  Unfortunately the hair absorbs the odor and it releases an old stale version of it.  That is one of the greatest benefits of waxing or shaving, all of those old stale odors of the last 6 months' sex and secretions are 100% removed. 

For me, oral sex with a furry pussy, which I otherwise like for petting just fine, ranges from difficult to impossible because of the gagging response I have to many of their old odors.  On the other hand a freshly washed shaved or waxed smooth puss with only fresh aromas is a true delight worthy of many orally induced orgasms. 

It was a constant source of friction between me and my ex-wife and played a part in making our sex life disagreeable. Fortunately my lady friend is in full agreement with me. We both bathe, sometimes as part of a ritual, before sex.

I like the smell of natural body odors. But there comes a time when I will say "take a shower". I use perfume but usually on special occasion. And I use it sparingly. When I'm around anyone who smells like they poured a bottle on it will make me sick.

There are times when we both didn't have time to shower (spur of the moment) then I don't care. I am concerned that I might smell and unless talked out of it I'll go wash. I think that along with body odor the breath is the next that can stop kissing (my favorite).

Well, I agree with a few guys who've written in that they love the smells.   I love getting my woman really well worked up, messy with her own juice, and sometimes even messier with mine, and then going there and tasting and drinking and breathing in... and I sometimes like skipping my mouth and mustache washing up later, just so I can carry it around.   Mmmmm.....  So the natural is great.

But, you know, a little perfume creates an atmosphere and since scent is one of our first senses that we really tune into, it carries huge emotional links in our memory.  I had a girlfriend for a couple of years who used a particular perfume, only on some occasions, and it was delicious.  After we split up I still had a small bit in a bottle left, and even now, many years late, the scent lingers by that bottle and it recalls so much for me.

Being a "purist" about anything generally leads to missing some wonderful possibilities, so try changing up a little and see how it works out!

Embrace clean & natural I say, however I do use roll-on deodorant on my bikini line, works well for ingrown hairs - not sure why. I always chose little or no fragrance.

I haven't used cologne in ages, anywhere. About oral sex if I haven't taken a shower first? Nope, doesn't worry me... never has.
