eXcessica publishing

eXcessica publishing
excessica.com

eXcessica publishing is open for submissions. We are seeking everything from sweet to forbidden erotic fiction from first-time or established authors.

We accept ANY length work, from the shortest short stories to super-novels, and we accept audio submissions as well.

We are different from any other e-publisher that we know of. We aren't a traditional publisher, who collects money from your work to cover costs and make a profit, nor are we a self/vanity publisher who collects money from you to publish your work. Instead, we are a partnership of authors who have come together to work in symbiosis to benefit everyone.

Companies are in business to make money and turn a profit. This means they often only publish things they believe the market will bear. This leaves a great deal of excellent writing on the cutting room floor, simply because many companies don't believe publishing it will benefit their bottom line.

eXcessica has no bottom line.

Our hard costs are nominal and the costs other publishing houses bear (cover artists, editors, marketing directors) are spread out amongst our authors. Because our authors are receiving so much more for their efforts (full cost of their book, instead of a 40/60 or 50/50 split) many are willing to volunteer their services as peer editors and cover artists. eXcessica does not make this mandatory—you will not be required to volunteer—but we believe in the basic goodness and generosity of people, and our experience has been that authors who are happy with their publisher are more than willing to help out in the partnership.

Because eXcessica has no real bottom line, we are free to look at and publish work that pushes the boundaries in ways other publishers can't. This allows our authors a great deal of freedom, and they like that. This freedom also comes with some costs, which is why most publishers won't take the edgier fiction they receive, but eXcessica allows authors to publish anonymously. Some have opted to be completely anonymous and, in exchange for the gratification of their work receiving a larger audience, have donated their proceeds to the partnership. In this way, we can cover our nominal costs, while still maintaining the integrity of the partnership.

Currently, about 45% of our authors are already established, having published with some of the biggest names in e-and-print publishing (Ellora's Cave, Samhain, Phaze and Cleis, to name a few).

Because eXcessica is a partnership and we are not profiting in any way from your work, we don't need to have long, complicated contracts. The partnership reaps all the benefits of the the company name, the marketing and production without all the strings attached.

Instead, we enter into a simple agreement. You will be asked to sign a general electronic release form that says the work is yours and you give the partnership the right to sell it, and that is all. All rights are non-exclusive. The work is yours to do with as you wish, and you can pull it from our shelves at any time. We will accept previously published works if you hold exclusive rights (and have proof of such).

If you are interested in partnering with eXcessica, keeping all of your sales and reaping the benefits of having a publisher with none of the drawbacks, please read the following submission guidelines:

Just because we like to push the boundaries doesn't mean we don't want an actual story with our erotica. Excessive sex is great (we like eXcess!) so sex in every chapter is fine, but sex without any semblance of a plot is not. We are looking for fully developed characters, plots and settings.

Boundaries:

Well we had to have some boundaries!

Underage sex is a controversial topic to say the least. Since we are based in the U.S. and considering the current political climate, we have to say that underage is defined as someone under the age of 18. So no descriptive sexual situations with underage persons will be allowed—however, allusions and reference to it happening in the past is okay.

Violent Rape. This is a soft boundary. We do accept some non-consensual work. Submit it and we'll see!

Necrophilia and bestiality—no surprise, the dead folks and the earth-animals are still off-limits, folks. Of course, this doesn't include the UNdead (vampires) or fantastical animals (shapeshifters, werewolves, etc.)

If you don't see it above, we will consider it. That includes all the traditional taboos like nonconsent, incest, etc.

A NOTE ON EDITING: Since we are a partnership, we expect you to be INCREDIBLY DILIGENT about your work. It needs to be as ERROR-FREE AS POSSIBLE before submission. Your mss will be peer-read and reviewed for both content and errors. If your mss has clearly been sent to us unedited, it will be returned to you. Once accepted, your mss will be peer-edited before publication.

A NOTE ON COVER ART: If your mss is accepted you will be asked to either provide cover art (with copyright clearance) or complete our cover art request form. Most of our authors are extremely creative individuals, and not just as writers, so they enjoy the freedom of doing their own cover art. If you aren't the artistic type (outside of words, of course!) we will work with you to develop your cover.
