Madelynne Ellis
I grew up in North-East England, a bleak but starkly beautiful
place, and the obvious setting for a first novel. I began writing in
1995 after finally escaping the Hotel California, the nickname of
the Parasitology laboratory where I'd been working. I spent the
first year or so in constant fear that someone would actually read
what I'd written and discover that I had a truly filthy mind.
Eventually, with publication as a goal, I found I had to share,
first with my partner, then with the members of ERWA. That boldness
eventually paid off, and I had my first novel, A Gentleman's
Wager, accepted by Black Lace in the summer of 2002. Since then,
my short stories have appeared in Wicked Words 8, and in the ERWA
galleries. I've a second novel, Passion of Isis in print and a
third in the pipeline. Someday I'd like to make the bestsellers list
with a work that enchants, torments and doesn't avoid the bedroom,
but for now, I'm content to dabble while I hone my craft and watch
my kids grow.
