Have you ever noticed that it’s jealousy that makes people interesting?  I know this because I’m possibly the most boring person on the face of the planet.  I don’t do the jealousy thing and never have.  

Why should I be troubled if someone has more money than me?  If I’ve got enough cash for the important things in life I’ve got no need to be envious of someone who has more.  That would just be shallow. 

Why should I be troubled if someone has a better house or car or a more satisfying social or sex life?  If I truly desired those things I would be better investing my time and efforts in acquiring them rather than envying someone who already has them.

All of which makes me boring. 

When people ask me about my ideal car I stare at them as though they’re stupid—a car is a car.  When people ask me about my ideal social life I tell them that it could only be improved by the removal of dimwits who ask stupid questions about my ideal social life.  In short: I’m a poster boy for boring.

And I only mention my boringness here to present a contrast against the exciting characters from Megan Clark’s Seduce Me. 

Seduce Me is the story of Carissa and Charlotte—two women who seem to have everything that the other wants.  Carissa is a successful professional.  She is on the brink of marriage, promotion and the type of happily-ever-after that should conclude a novel.  Charlotte has a hedonist’s appetite for pleasure, a generous ability to share her free spirit, and a partner who supports and encourages her promiscuity. 

It’s no surprise that these two opposites attract and become close friends.  Similarly, given Carissa’s jealous appreciation of all that Charlotte has, it’s no surprise that the characters in this story are interesting and exciting.  They each have the sort of acquisitive natures that mean it’s impossible for them to ever be considered boring.

Megan Clark is an accomplished storyteller and Seduce Me is her second novel.  This story, which builds to a road trip of discovery and the inevitable changes that follow, is further proof of her talents as a masterful novelist. 

Despite its contemporary setting Seduce Me has an aura of the 1920’s in the way the characters are constructed.  As intellectual libertines, Carissa and Charlotte would have been comfortable sitting alongside Stein and Toklas at 27 Rue de Fleurus.  Their relationship blends the cerebral with the physical and, in their appreciation of life’s pleasures, both Carissa and Charlotte are capable of expressing themselves with the pithiest wit and wisdom. 

It should also be noted that the sex scenes in Seduce Me are well developed, passionate and exciting—as is to be expected from the pen of Megan Clark.  Regardless of how the protagonists are experimenting, or with whom, Megan Clark presents their adventures with an eye for detail and an innate understanding of how arousal works best.
