Some days I think it would be great to live in a porn movie. It’s a recurring fantasy of mine that partially explains the cheesy Seventies-style music that’s always playing from my car’s stereo. The other reason for that music is that the tape has been wedged in there since I bought the car, and I’m not sufficiently technically-minded to force it out with a screwdriver.

But I think the main thing I enjoy about the idea of living in a porn movie fantasyland is the prospect of riveting dialogue and witty exchanges that could be enjoyed in such a surreal world.

IN THE PETROL STATION

Me: "Could you please fill her up with unleaded?"
Busty female petrol pump attendant (wearing a skimpy uniform):
"How would you like to fill me up?"

IN THE BUTCHERS

Me: "Please may I have a dozen links of your Cumberland sausages?"
Busty female butcher (wearing a skimpy uniform):

AT THE LIBRARY

Me: "I’m wanting to get my hands on a Longfellow."
Busty female librarian (wearing a skimpy uniform):

But, I strongly suspect, the reality wouldn’t be half as entertaining as the fantasy. After reading Marcelle Perks’s latest title, Secrets of Porn Star Sex, I’ve begun to realise that Porn Stars are not the bubble-headed bimbos that the media would have us believe. In truth the gentleman and ladies in this much-maligned industry are intelligent, articulate and erudite.

For those of you who haven’t read Marcelle’s work before, it should be noted that she is enormously intelligent and hurls herself into reams and reams of research. In her previous titles, The User’s Guide to the Rabbit and Incredible Orgasms, she has produced books that draw on a wide range of pertinent resources, from university professors, and business executives through to those on the front-lines with the raw and relevant experience.

And in Secrets of Porn Star Sex, she has again gone above and beyond the call of duty in her search to find out how us mere mortals can enjoy the experience of sex in the fashion of venerated porn stars.

Of course, readers first need to decide if they want to have sex like a porn star. If you’re a sad pathetic creature (like me) and assume that porn star sex is simply a matter of responding to pick-up lines like the ones mentioned above, then you don’t need this book. You need psychotherapy.

However, if you have bought into the milieu of the porn movie genre, and recognize that it is filled with confident characters, multiple-orgasms and gratuitous satisfaction, then this book could be the ideal travel companion as you explore the landscapes and scenery of this brave new world.

Naturally, the truth is that even porn stars don’t always have sex like porn stars. The glamorous sets, athletic positions and stupendous stamina are all part of the movie magic that makes each orgasm earth-shattering and every climax climactic. But Marcelle has had the insight to look beyond the superficial surface level to unearth the secrets and details that make the prospect of porn star sex sound like fun.

For such a small book, this title has a lot to offer. The interviews are short, incisive and allude to a different element of the porn dynamic that many readers might not have considered. However, although it’s compact, Marcelle has thoughtfully included an extensive list of websites as well as a filmography for those who want to take their studies further.

Secrets of Porn Star Sex includes contributions from a host of male and female porn stars. There are opinions from bondage experts, industry newcomers and veterans, as well as medical professionals with firsthand experience of the adult movie business. Secrets of Porn Stars Sex is one of the most level-headed and practical reads you are ever likely to see pertaining to the adult movie industry. Whether you want a book that can help add the extra zing of celluloid sex to your own love life, or are simply curious to read the thoughts and opinions of those involved with this much-maligned niche market, Secrets of Porn Star Sex is an absolute must.
