It’s always interesting to see which adult features are chosen to be the "big" (i.e. lots of promotion) releases and which ones are not. Nine times out of ten, the studios get it right, and those "big" releases are truly the best movies the studios have produced. But sometimes, an excellent film isn’t given the attention it deserves, and such is the case with Wicked Pictures’ House Sitter.

House Sitter is an impressive erotic thriller, with outstanding performances by the leads Jessica Drake and Randy Spears. The story begins with a wealthy man played by Brad Armstrong (who also wrote and directed this movie) hiring Jessica to watch his house for a week for $1000. It seems simple enough, until Jessica gets a visit from a mysterious stranger (Randy Spears) who stops by and asks if he can pick something up he left at the house. Suspicious, Jessica won’t let him look around...and that’s when the terror begins. Randy starts harassing her with phone calls and a dangerous cat and mouse game begins. Just who is Randy’s character and what does he want in Brad’s house? 

There are seven sex scenes in the movie, and because the majority of them fit nicely into the storyline, they’re pretty hot to watch. House Sitter is a great example of how good porn can be with the right script, the right cast and the right director in place. Probably the biggest release we’ve seen from the adult industry so far in 2007, Debbie Does Dallas...Again lives up to the hype, and is one of the most enjoyable porn flicks we’ve seen from Vivid Pictures in quite some time. I’ve generally found that big press and big releases usually result in "big disappointment" when it comes to porn, but I have to give Vivid credit: they’ve managed to live up to the hype on this one. I think one of the reasons is because they didn’t take themselves too seriously this time around. Debbie Does Dallas...Again is light and fluffy...but it’s also a whole heck of a lot of fun. If Nick Manning doesn’t get an AVN nod for his performance here, it would be a travesty.

This is by far the most outstanding release I’ve seen from the adult industry this year. It actually surpasses Ninn’s Catherine in both visuals and storytelling, and that’s saying a lot. In fact, it would be a "Sin" not to add this to your collection! —Adult DVD Empire

The Visitors is a fantastic mix of Sci-Fi/Horror and Porn. Can a porn movie be scary and sexy at the same time? It can if you're director Michael Raven and you’re at the helm of The Visitors. There’s a lot to admire about The Visitors, but let’s start with the movie itself. This is a simple story, shot on what appears to be a modest budget,, but yet it’s one of the best adult releases of 2006. Why, you ask? Story...plain and simple. But hey, you want to know about the sex, right? Raven’s story doesn’t skimp on the erotic action, with five boy/girl scenes and one alien abduction involving star Kimberly Kane and an alien probe (the final sexual action of the title, where we get to see Kimberly Kane's pussy probed aboard the alien’s spaceship). If there’s a downside to The Visitors, it’s that the movie leaves you wanting more. 

The Visitors wraps up with an entertaining coda (look for a cameo by the director) that suggests a sequel may be on the way. Let’s hope so, because The Visitors is quite simply the best Wicked movie to come along since the last time they tackled the sci-fi genre in Space Nuts.

Of all the big fall releases we’ve seen in adult this year, Nic Andrews’ Dark Angels 2 is perhaps the only one a viewer could find themselves in the middle of and not realize it was a porn movie until the hardcore action started. In fact, if Andrews’ decided to cut the sex out of his film, he’d still have a pretty good B-movie horror flick that could play well on late-night HBO or Showtime.

Dark Angels 2 is as much a zombie movie as it is a vampire one, so fans of either horror genre should love what they see here. The special effects and make-up are top-notch (they would rival a mainstream release) and the camerawork by Andrews is slick and professional. If the movie has a downside, it’s that Sunny Lane is required to do a lot of acting with her role...and she’s just not up to the task (she is, after all, a porn star – and a new one, at that). But if you can put up with her rather flat delivery, the male leads really deliver the goods (Barrett and Dillion are solid, and any frequent porn watcher already knows how good Evan Stone can be).

When "working girls" get together to share some of their shocking trick-tales, we get brutally honest accounts of what it's like to fuck for a living in the bowels of Los Angeles (Eon won't call it L.A. and he still won't shoot in the Valley). They find something else to share when they pick up an old VHS copy of the original New Wave Hookers at a garage sale something makes them keep watching, and before they know it, they're captivated and turned-on, and they become ... Neu Wave Hookers.

Fascinated with the films strange hold they decide to investigate, breaking-in and snooping around VCA HQ, where they uncover the infamous "Dark Report #2" (an ancient press release where Greg Dark brags about "discovering" Traci at a car wash). In a role that gives new meaning to "role-play," Dana DeArmond plays the notorious bombshell, giving, perhaps, the most provocative blowjob in DVD history.

The 3 DVD set includes the original New Wave Hookers which is the same cut that has been available for the past several years. In other words, those looking for that deleted Traci Lords footage are out of luck (but also staying out of prison, so see...this is a good thing!).

The Best DVD Release Since The Fashionistas ...Seriously!

Okay, I totally dropped the ball on this one. Tales From The Crack has been sitting on my review pile for a few weeks now, but I’d heard no "buzz" around the industry to indicate that this was a title that was in need of my immediate attention. I knew it would be decent – few titles from Evil Angel are truly mediocre – but nobody told me this was the best Evil Angel release we’ve seen since The Fashionistas. I’m not being dramatic either...Tales From The Crack is quite simply the best porn DVD I’ve watched since that brilliant masterpiece from director John Stagliano.

Stagliano didn’t direct Tales From The Crack, but he did executive produce it and had a lot of say in the direction the title would take (as can be seen on the quite impressive bonus disc in this set that details virtually every aspect of production). Instead, he hired two newcomers to porn – directors John Howard and Scott Philips – whose only real claim to fame prior to this movie was some low-budget mainstream projects and a comic book entitled "Horny Biker Sluts" which caught Stagliano’s eye. Looking to take the "Biker Sluts" concept and Staglino’s own "Buttman Comics" ideas (which can be seen in a glossy magazine that Evil Angel periodically publishes) and turn them into a full-fledged adult movie, Tales From The Crack isn’t the first time that porn has tried to combine erotica with comics, but it’s certainly the most successful effort to date.

Catherine is one of the big adult releases for the fall of 2005, and one can only hope that its surreal, but spectacular, vision doesn’t get lost in the hype of other, less original, adult features starring more recognizable talent.

Catherine stars sexy redhead Audrey Hollander in the title role...a woman living in the present who must fight off the demons going on inside her head (represented by visions that seem to take place in the past) before she is driven to do something terrible. Is she suffering from multiple personality disorder? Is she remembering a past life? Is this reviewer totally off-base on his interpretation of director Michael Ninn's work? Who’s to say? Part of Catherine’s appeal is that much is left up to the mind of the viewer – which will likely lead to different viewers drawing different conclusions...which may be exactly what Ninn’s intentions are with his film.

All of this is shown in glorious anamorphic widescreen and 2.0 Dolby sound...giving the viewer both a great-looking picture (although Ninn plays with his images – often slightly blurring or over-saturating the picture to give the movie a more dreamlike quality) and making the soundtrack all the more haunting and encompassing to the home viewer.

A lot of adult directors like to say their work is "artistic," but Catherine is truly a movie that can stake a claim to that term. It’s not only one of the best DVDs of 2005, but it’s one of the best movies Michael Ninn has done in years.

This was the surprise hit of our year, with copies simply flying off of the shelves.

In the Garden of Shadows overflows with camera tricks, stellar editing, and haunting imagery. It's a ghostly book of a fallen angel, and she herself becomes the angel who was cast out of heaven. From there, Ninn mixes past and future into a fluid, magic present of astonishing sex.

The 40-minute long second disc features a bonus ‘behind the scenes’ segment along with the inside scoop on the charming Anais.

This is a highly erotic, very beautiful movie.

Empire Review:  If you would have told me that a movie about fashion designers would become one of the most heralded and most awarded adult films of all time, I probably would have laughed at you - but that's exactly what we get with The Fashionistas, John Stagliano's latest movie which impresses not so much for its storyline (which is still fairly good, by the way), but because the sex is so intense that it's hard to get through this movie the first time without taking a break to recharge one's batteries (if you know what I mean!).

While the movie features some hot women including Belladonna and Taylor St. Clair, the real driving force behind The Fashionistas is Rocco Siffredi, who gives one of the best performances I have seen by a male actor in an adult video in the last couple of years. He plays a European fashion designer named Antonio, who has come to the states in search of someone to come up with and produce a new line of fetish wear that will be unlike anything else the world has ever seen.

Shot on 35mm film, with the lighting and production elements of a mainstream motion picture, this is by far John Stagliano most ambitious project. It is a highly charged erotic experience, not intended for the novice porno viewer.

Empire Review: It’s hard to find a good storyline in porn these days. After all, there’s only so many ways to plant innuendos and seduction in between bone slapping sex scenes. So it becomes harder and harder to keep things fresh and interesting. Most studios have given plots the shaft altogether (pun intended). Of the remaining few who still dabble in plot lines and production value, Wicked has risen to the upper echelon, providing quality product consistently. It doesn’t hurt having the hottest names in the biz at your disposal. 

What emerges is some of the steamiest, well-thought out features ever produced. Dream Quest is the latest, and stars the world-famous Jenna Jameson as Sarah—an average girl longing for romance and adventure to whisk her away from the small town doldrums. Well, her dreams come to life as Stephanie Swift and Felicia (who play heavenly faeries) come to take Jenna away on a quest to save Fantasy from the grips of the dastardly dubious Vladimir (played by Hershel Savage.

Empire Review: Unlike most porns, Dark Garden manages to effectively combine hot sex scenes with a good feature. While not quite as good as Ninn's truly fantastic Shock, this film noirish paranoid thriller is, well, thrilling... The techno soundtrack rocks. The visuals are great from the opening credits on (the credits remind me of the credits in Seven). 

This is porn genius at work, far above any other porn I have ever seen. It is visually inventive, and the sex is inventive as well. You will find nothing formulaic here. There are eight sex scenes, all of them good. It's a bit incoherent, but it works like a sexual fantasy. The period detail is striking. This is as good as any Hollywood mainstream film. Both the décor and outfits, especially the women's, are really cool.
